Supervalu shake-up continues; wholesale chief stays

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu's new CEO continues to shake up the management ranks, but he's keeping the head of the company's wholesale and distribution business.

Sam Duncan said Friday that Janel Haugarth will continue to oversee that business, which is expected to account for nearly 50 percent of the company's annual revenues.

"It was a priority for me to keep Janel with the organization going forward," Duncan said. "She is highly respected by our independent retailers, and her experience and leadership ensures stability."

The wholesale business has 19 distribution centers, including a Supervalu center in Urbana and the W. Newell & Son produce center in Champaign.

Duncan replaced Supervalu's chief information officer and executive vice president for human resources and corporate communications Friday.

Earlier this month, he named new presidents for Save-A-Lot and Shop 'n Save, a new executive vice president of merchandising and marketing, and a new chief strategy officer.
