Construction nears for new hotel in Rantoul

RANTOUL — Excavation could begin within a month for a new motel on the village's west side.

Joe Warner, who is part of the United Development Corp. of Rantoul that also includes Gene Warner, said plans for the 70-room Holiday Inn Express are "going forward."

"I talked to the contractor who will do the work, and they can start in probably 30 days or less," Joe Warner said.

The Rantoul Village Board this week approved a revised plat for Stonebridge subdivision. The original plat was approved in 2009, but the nation's economic downtown got in the way, and the site was never developed.

Village inspector Dan Culkin said the revised plat is identical to the 2009 one but does not include a road that would have connected Stonebridge Drive north to the neighboring Walmart Supercenter parking lot. Culkin said Walmart did not want that connecting road put in, so it was taken out of the plans.
