Burlington Coat Factory coming to Danville mall

DANVILLE — Burlington Coat Factory is the national retailer that will be occupying the anchor spot at the Village Mall later this year, Vermilion Advantage officials announced Friday morning.

Burlington has more than 470 stores nationwide and features apparel, home and baby products and plans to open at the Village Mall by the fall, filling a 50,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by J.C. Penney and then Steve & Barry's.

The city of Danville earlier this month approved an incentive package that returns to the Village Mall ownership up to $500,000 of sales tax revenue that will be generated by the Burlington store to help offset the cost of renovating the anchor spot.

Vicki Haugen with Vermilion Advantage said in the news release that Burlington Coat Factory will be a good fourth anchor for the Village Mall property and "awesome" additional shopping venue.

"We are beyond delighted that they have chosen to enter our market and look forward to supporting them and the other new retailers that have joined our community over the last several months," she said in the news release.

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer added that the city is also excited about the addition to the mall.

"Burlington Coat Factory will not only bring more shopping opportunities to the mall but will serve as another catalyst toward filling additional square footage within the Village Mall," he said.

Haugen and mall Manager Cindy Compton said having that anchor spot filled on the east wing of the mall will make it easier to fill the smaller retail spots on that wing.

Zeshan Tabani with T Danville Mall, owner of the mall, said he also is thrilled about the opening of Burlington Coat Factory, because it's important to the mall and the community. Tabani is in discussions with other prospective retailers and is committed to continuing to redefine the Village Mall as Danville's premier shopping and entertainment destination, according to the news release.

T Danville Mall LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tabani Group Inc., a Dallas-based real estate firm.
