N-G wins top honor for ad awards
For the second straight year, The News-Gazette emerged as the top daily newspaper for advertising awards at the annual Illinois Press Association convention.
The News-Gazette was proclaimed the winner of the James C. Copley Memorial Trophy for advertising achievement by receiving 35 awards for excellence including first-place awards in 14 of the 23 competition categories. Among the publications recognized as the best in the state are The News-Gazette Classified section, the Design An Ad special section and The Answer Book. First place awards were also given in classes for Best Small Ad (Lou Taylor Photography), Best Ad Series (Meals on Wheels) and Best Rich Media Online Ad (Anthem Chevrolet).
For the third time in the last five years, Lyncoln Delporte was named Best Ad Designer.
Due to the size of The News-Gazette's circulation, it competes with the largest newspapers in Illinois. The Illinois Press Association represents approximately 480 newspapers. More than 70 Illinois newspapers participated in the advertising contest and submitted more than 1,100 entries. All entries were judged by the Pennsylvania Press Association.
