Boutique plans late-August opening in former Follett's building

CHAMPAIGN — Apricot Lane, a women's fashion and gift boutique, has agreed to lease 2,200 square feet in the former Follett's Bookstore building at Wright and Green streets in Champaign's Campustown.

The store, which is targeting a late August opening, will carry branded fashion apparel, jewelry, handbags, accessories and gifts, according to JSM Development, which is redeveloping the Follett's building.

Apricot Lane already leases space from JSM at Uptown Crossing in Normal. This will be the boutique's fifth location in Illinois.

"We are very proud and excited to be coming to Champaign-Urbana and Campustown," said Jena Dixon, who with her parents, Rod and Renee Dixon, are the franchisees for the Champaign, Normal and Peoria stores.

In a release, Dixon said the franchise allows each store to tailor its clothing to the market and carry designer brands as well.

Apricot Lane is slated to occupy the western half of the first floor of the former Follett's building at 627 S. Wright St., C. The store will face Green Street.

Earlier this year, JSM signed Ragstock as the building's first tenant, with that retailer occupying the building's lower level. Ragstock sells new and used clothing for men and women.

Jill Guth of JSM Development said JSM is in negotiations with a food-related business to occupy the eastern half of the first floor, as well as part of the second floor.

Apricot Lane has about 100 stores in 36 states, with many new locations being planned.
