PrimeSport buys company that has Champaign office

CHAMPAIGN — Premiere Global Sports, which has an office in Champaign, has been acquired by Atlanta-based PrimeSport Inc., the companies announced Monday.

PrimeSport, a privately held company, offers fans direct access to major sporting events, arranging for premium tickets and suites, field passes and meetings with sports celebrities.

Premiere Global Sports, based in Cary, N.C., is a travel and hospitality company that specializes in travel related to collegiate sporting events and NASCAR events.

PrimeSport President and CEO Sam Soni said in a release that the two companies have worked together on various sporting events.

"We have been considering acquiring Premiere Global Sports for quite some time as we feel their collection of collegiate and NASCAR partnerships are a perfect fit for our existing NCAA, NFL and bowl game partnerships," Soni said.

Premiere Global Sports is the official partner of more than 40 colleges and universities, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State and Nebraska, and 18 NASCAR races and speedways. It also offers packages for the Masters golf tournament and the Kentucky Derby.

PrimeSport is the official partner of the NCAA Men's Final Four, the NCAA College World Series, 14 NFL teams, including the Chicago Bears, and 10 college football bowl games, including the BCS National Championship, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl.

"We are excited to join the PrimeSport team," said Scott Jernigan, executive vice president of Premiere Global Sports. "The array of sports events and other opportunities at PrimeSport is incredible."

Premiere Global Sports has more than 60 employees. The Champaign office, at 308 S. Neil St., became part of Premiere's College Division after Premiere acquired Champaign-based Dodds Athletic Tours in 2008.

Dodds Athletic Tours was founded by Donald Dodds, who arranged group travel for the University of Illinois when its football team went to the 1963 Rose Bowl. He arranged hundreds of bowl trips for fans and bands in the years since.
