DANVILLE — The Village Mall will again have a book store when a Midwestern-based independent bookstore chain opens a Danville location later this summer.
Cindy Compton, manager at the mall, said Book World will open in the 3,100-square-foot space formerly occupied by Waldenbooks.
Book World, based in Wisconsin, has more than 45 full-service book stores throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa and Michigan, and offers a wide selection of hard cover and paperback books for all ages as well as a variety of other merchandise. The stores also offer more than 3,000 magazines, toys, games, puzzles, greeting cards, calendars, trading cards, newspapers and more.
Aaron Gullickson, vice president of new store development with Book World, said the tentative opening date for the store is the last week in August.
He said Book World has been interested in the Danville market for more than a year and a half, but logistically, the chain needed another store in downstate Illinois before it could justify opening a Danville location. He said once Book World opened the Decatur location at the mall in that city, it made sense from the perspective of Book World's weekly product deliveries from Appleton, Wis., to open a Danville site, too.
"We are excited to get in there," said Gullickson, adding that the chain is expanding more into Illinois where its stores have been successful.
