Ogden bank hires Damler. Jeff Damler of Champaign has been hired as vice president/commercial lending at the First National Bank of Ogden.

He previously was a commercial lender at Heartland Bank & Trust Co. for six years.

McGladrey promotes Zerrusen. Ryan Zerrusen has been promoted to assurance supervisor in McGladrey's Champaign office.

He primarily serves clients in the commercial and not-for-profit areas.

Zerrusen joined the firm in 2008 and is a certified public accountant.

InsureChampaign adds Machula. Kay Machula has joined InsureChampaign as an agent specializing in business, worker's compensation, home and auto insurance.

She recently earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designation.

Machula was most recently business development officer for BankChampaign.

Old National appoints Hill. Tonya S. Hill has been named commercial relationship manager, assistant vice president, at Old National Bank, Danville.

She was previously a trust officer with Old National Wealth Management.

Kremer named chief financial officer. Dean Kremer of Teutopolis has joined Koerner Distributor Inc. as chief financial officer.

The Effingham-based beverage distributor has offices in Champaign, Carterville and New Baden.

Kremer has more than 24 years of financial experience in public accounting, private business and banking.

His predecessor, Larry O'Dell, remains with the firm as he prepares for retirement.


Satterwhite cited for service. Marcy Satterwhite has been presented the Illinois Business Education Association's 2013 Distinguished Service Award.

She is business instructor and coordinator of the desktop publishing and graphic design programs at Lake Land College, Mattoon.

Local researchers win honors. Eight local researchers with the Engineer Research and Development Center are part of a team receiving the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Innovation of the Year Award.

They were cited for their development and deployment of the BUILDER Sustainment Management System.

Award winners from the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, Champaign, include: Lance Marrano and Bruce Rives, both of Champaign; Michael Grussing, Kelly Dilks and Louis "Buddy" Bartels, all of Mahomet; and Veda Scarpetta of Savoy.

Winners from the center's Information Technology Laboratory are Matthew Richards, Champaign, and Joseph Karbarz, Bloomington.

Starwalt recognized at game. Wendy Starwalt was recognized at the Chicago Bears-Dallas Cowboys football game as Illinois Program Advisor of the Year for the "Fuel Up to Play 60" program.

The program encourages students to get active and eat a healthy diet.

Starwalt is a physical education teacher at Carrie Busey Elementary School, Savoy.

Area residents elected to Illini FS board. Scott Kesler of Ogden, Stephen Ludwig of Danville and James Young of Newman have been elected to the operating board of Illini FS for three-year terms.

Finegan elected committee chair. Jared Finegan of Ashkum has been elected chair of the Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Committee for 2013-14.

He has been involved with Ford-Iroquois Young Leaders for several years.

Garman named 'Person of Year.'  Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita B. Garman has been named the 2013 "Person of the Year" by Chicago Lawyer magazine. She is featured in the December issue.

In addition to being the longest-serving woman judge in Illinois, Garman is the first chief justice to have served in virtually every judicial capacity: associate judge, circuit judge, presiding circuit judge, appellate justice, presiding appellate justice, supreme court justice and now chief justice.

Her judicial career began as an associate judge in Vermilion County in 1974.

Park district receives award. The Urbana Park District has been recognized as an Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency by the Illinois Association of Park Districts and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association.
