It's Your Business: Lumber outlet to be built in Champaign

Look for a new lumberyard along Champaign's Staley Road, a short distance north of West Springfield Avenue.

A building permit has been issued for a new LS Building Products facility at 211 S. Staley Road, with the work estimated at $1.1 million.

LS Building Products, based in East Peoria, already has a Champaign location, at 801 Pioneer St., just off North Prospect Avenue.

The company is a wholesale distributor of specialty building products, serving contractors, builders and professional remodelers.

Its products include lumber, millwork, siding, roofing, windows, doors, fencing, cabinets and countertops, according to its website.

In addition to East Peoria and Champaign, LS Building Products has a location in Pontoon Beach near Granite City.

Fourth time's a charm

The Champaign Center Partnership will sponsor its fourth annual Center City Restaurant Week beginning today and running through Saturday.

"Many of our restaurants are offering three-course meals or entrees at special prices that won't be offered at any other time of the year," said Erin Lippitz, the group's executive director.

As of Friday, nine restaurants in downtown Champaign and Campustown were listed on the group's website as participating.

Big Grove Tavern is offering a three-course, fixed-price meal for $30, and Wedge Tequila Bar and Grill has an appetizer-entree-margarita combo for $20. Menu details are available by going to the champaigncenter.com and clicking on the restaurant logos.

Other restaurants offering specials this week, according to the website, are: Aroma Cafe & Kitchen, Cafe Kopi, Farren's Pub & Eatery and Pekara Bakery & Bistro, all in downtown Champaign; and Q Smoke House, Legends and Firehaus, all in Campustown.

Diners can fill out comment cards and drop them into boxes at each restaurant for a chance to win gift cards to Center City businesses. The group is also using social-media promotions on Twitter and Facebook that give diners additional chances to win gift cards.

The week is sponsored by the Hyatt Place hotel, which is expected to open in downtown Champaign later this year.

Community Days coming up

The Bergner's store in Champaign and the Carson's stores in Danville and Mattoon have scheduled their semiannual "Community Days" fundraising event for Feb. 28 and March 1.

Local nonprofit groups can sign up at communitydayevent.com to sell Community Days savings booklets. They can sell the booklets for a $5 donation to support their groups and can keep the full donation.

The booklet has a $10 off coupon, as well as a 30 percent off shopping pass and more than $500 in coupon savings to use at those stores and any others operated by Bon-Ton Stores Inc. during the Community Days event.

Last fall's Community Days event raised about $5.8 million for nonprofit groups.
