Firm buys Verizon stores in Danville
DANVILLE — After opening a new store in Champaign last month, Russell Cellular announced Wednesday that it has purchased two Verizon retail stores in Danville.
The two Bud's Express Cellular locations, at 2802 N. Vermilion St. and 22 N. Jackson St., will open Thursday as Russell Cellular stores, according to a news release from Russell Cellular on Wednesday. The Russell Cellular location in Champaign opened Jan. 16 at 1300 S. Neil St.
Since 1952 Bud's Electronics has been locally owned and operated by the Ehrlich family, most recently Neal and Melody Ehrlich of Danville, who owned and operated the business until this purchase. The two Bud's Express Cellular locations grew out of that original electronics business that also evolved into a car stereo and home theater business.
Russell Cellular is headquartered in Battlefield, Mo. It has 190 locations in 18 states and employs more than 600 people.
The Danville stores will operate Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The stores will be full-service locations, according to Russell Cellular officials, and each will be staffed with five wireless specialists. District Sales Manager Lynn Green will manage the Danville locations along with the Champaign store under the direction of Dan Vincent, regional sales manager.
Russell Cellular President Jeff Russell said in the news release that Russell Cellular is excited about its newest stores in Danville and looking forward to serving the surrounding community.
