Presence offers electronic access to records

Both Presence hospitals in Urbana and Danville have begun offering patients access to their own electronic medical records around the clock.

To view records for free, through a secure, online portal, patients of Covenant Medical Center and United Samaritans Medical Center will need to enroll in the new system, called MyRecord, hospital officials said.

What's available now through the system are such things as information about inpatient, outpatient and emergency department visits, lab and radiology reports and preventive patient health information.

An enhancement in the works that could be available in about six months will allow patients to access and pay their hospital bills through the system, said Jenny Karnezis, a Presence Health clinical applications analyst.

The information currently available dates back to early March, and is posted 24 hours after the medical services have been delivered, according to the hospitals.

"It's important that we recognize patients' desires to know the facts about their health care," Dr. Jared Rogers, the hospitals' interim president and CEO, said in a statement.
