Sunday preview: Wendy's coming to Neil, Five Points

Here's a sneak peek at Don Dodson's It's Your Business column coming in Sunday's paper.

Wendy's plans to open a new restaurant on South Neil Street in Champaign as part of the Carriage Center redevelopment project.

"We're anticipating an opening in late November," said franchisee Mike Allegro, who already has local stores on Sixth Street in Champaign's Campustown and in the Illini Union.

He's also preparing to open a store next month on Cunningham Avenue near University Avenue in Urbana.

"We think Champaign is a good market for Wendy's, and Neil Street has enough traffic to support a store like ours," Allegro said. He noted that a Wendy's restaurant once stood where the Atlanta Bread Company store on South Neil now stands.

The Wendy's on South Neil will be just to the south of the new entrance to Carriage Center from Neil. The restaurant will occupy the southern part of a 5,600-square-foot building.
