Today's Special: Spicy Tang set to serve in early July

CHAMPAIGN — The wait for Spicy Tang appears almost over.

Simon Chang, chef for the new restaurant in Campustown, said he hopes to start serving in seven to 10 days — sometime in early July — provided everything goes on track.

The restaurant plans to feature spicy soup made from ingredients that each customer chooses, Chang said. Customers will pick the meats and vegetables they want, the ingredients will be sent to the kitchen, and in three to five minutes the soup will be ready.

For people who want less spicy fare, the restaurant will have appetizers, such as egg rolls, roast pork and barbecue wraps, as well as meats served with fried rice or noodles, Chang said.

"The kitchen is small, but we can make everyone happy," Chang said.

Chang, who previously worked at Panda Express, and Rebecca Chang will be employed at the restaurant owned by Martin Wan. The restaurant is at 611-A E. Green St., C, just east of Campus Florist.

Newly remodeled with padded wooden chairs at tables and booths, the restaurant has the capacity to seat 40. It will be open for both lunch and dinner, Chang said.
