Today's Special: Courier Cafe among group's top lunch spots in state

URBANA — An Urbana eatery has been named one of the top 10 lunch spots in Illinois.

Best Things Illinois, part of Americantowns Media, named The Courier Cafe, 111 N. Race St., U, on its annual list of the top lunch spots in the Prairie State. It was ranked No. 7.

"This no-frills cafe has been a popular lunch destination in Urbana since the 1980s," said Best Things Illinois spokeswoman April Dowling. "

Known for their fresh breakfast and lunch dishes served in an antique atmosphere, The Courier Cafe offers reasonably priced menu items served by friendly wait staff. Customers seem to favor the salad bar, milkshakes and brownie special sundaes."

Described as an "old-school American spot with an antique vibe," The Courier is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

Here is the rest of the top 10:

1. Lula Cafe, Chicago.

2. The Palms Grill Cafe, Atlanta.

3. Sweet Maple Cafe, Chicago.

6. Labriola Bakery & Cafe, Oak Brook.
