Today's Special: Ye Olde set to open new doughnut shop

URBANA — Ye Olde Donut Shoppe is opening a new doughnut bakery at 708 Killarney St. in Urbana.

Ye Olde Donut Shoppe bills itself as selling "the original C-U gourmet doughnuts."

The site is fully licensed and open for commercial and retail delivery.

Pickup may be arranged by calling 217-359-3311 with one day's advance notice.

Retail sales will be coming to the new location within 60 days, according to owner Eric Seeds.

"We are putting in a new floor and new doughnut carts," he said.

The business originated in 1956 and was operated by Emma and Charles Woollen. In 1977, Emma's sister, Sandy Pyle, and her husband, Mike, took over the business.

The business at one time had three shops in Champaign-Urbana.

Ye Olde offered retail locations at the southwest corner of University and Lincoln avenues in Urbana, at the northwest corner of First and Green streets in Champaign and in the 1200 block of South Mattis Avenue in Champaign.

While all of those locations closed, Seeds continued to provide doughnuts to commercial and wholesale customers while operating a cafe in the University of Illinois College of Law on campus.

"My lease expired this summer, so we looked for a new location," Seeds said.

According to Seeds, the Killarney location will be used to make doughnuts for delivery.

"We already provide doughnuts for Circle K and Espresso Royale," he said.

Long-range plans call for opening additional retail stores in the area at a later date.
