Today's Special: Pandamonium Doughnuts settles down

CHAMPAIGN — A Savoy couple who started out making doughnuts in their kitchen for fun four years ago now have their own shop on Champaign's south side.

Pandamonium Doughnuts has opened at 1105 Windsor Road, C, in the same strip mall as Sun Singer Wine and Spirits.

James Kyung said he and Marci, his then-girlfriend and now wife, baked doughnuts as a hobby and set up a booth at the Urbana farmers' market.

When the gourmet doughnuts continued to sell out each weekend, Kyung quit his job and started up the Pandamonium Doughnuts food truck in November 2014.

When the food truck also became a hit, Kyung decided to expand his doughnut empire with a brick-and-mortar store that features a coffee shop.

"And we still use the same recipe," Kyung said.

Often called by customers "Panda doughnuts," Kyung's creations come in a variety of fun flavors, including orange pistachio, strawberry rhubarb, smores, cookies and cream and apple cider.

The shop employs 15 people.
