Alpha-Care to move offices in February

CHAMPAIGN — Alpha-Care Health Professionals plans to move its Champaign office to the M2 complex in February, giving the downtown building its largest office tenant.

The nursing and health staffing agency will occupy about 5,000 square feet on the third floor of the M2 building at 301 N. Neil St., C, said David Line, president of Alpha-Care and one of its owners.

Alpha-Care currently occupies about 3,700 square feet on the first floor of the Executive Center at 115 N. Neil St., C. But space there is getting tight, Line said.

"We've grown, and we needed to add space," he said, noting that if Alpha-Care hired another there, that person would have to occupy a conference room.

Alpha-Care has 18 full-time and five part-time employees working in the Champaign office, Line said.

The organization also has offices in Bloomington, Charleston, Danville, Decatur and Yorkville, as well as a small office in Covington, Ind.

Alpha-Care employs about 375 altogether, with registered nurses or licensed practical nurses making up about 100 of those.

Of the remaining health professionals, about 75 percent are certified nursing aides and 25 percent are home health aides, Line said.

Alpha Care provides home-care assistance for adults and seniors, skilled care for children and relief staffing for hospitals, clinics and nursing homes.

Previously, the biggest office tenant at M2 was Mezolink, a data services company that had 6,000 square foot space on the second floor. But that company ceased operations last spring after the Securities and Exchange Commission filed suit against Urbana money manager Timothy Roth, who had been associated with Mezolink.

Consequently, that space has become available again and could be well-suited for firms providing data-storage and disaster-recovery services, said Cynthia Faullin, a vice president of One Main Development.

Meanwhile, Faullin said, M2 is dealing with "three very promising tenants," all of whom are eying office space on the third floor. That floor is equipped with a full-service kitchen and two conference rooms, she said.

M2's second, third, fourth and fifth floors are designed for offices, with the fourth floor housing The Enclave, a space designed for small offices.

Residential condominiums occupy M2's sixth through ninth floors. The building has 51 units, with three of those executive condominiums intended for short-term lease. As for the other condos, 18 have been sold, 21 have been rented and nine more are available for sale, Faullin said.

Most of the retail and office space on the first floor has been taken. Faullin said the only unoccupied first-floor spaces are 4,000 square feet along West Church Street and 2,000 square feet parallel to the building's central breezeway.
