Local economic development group hires new CEO

CHAMPAIGN — Mike Kirchhoff has been hired as the chief executive officer of the Champaign County Economic Development Corp., succeeding John Dimit.

Kirchhoff's appointment takes effect Aug. 1, and Dimit will remain on staff through the end of August.

Kirchhoff, 49, was most recently vice president of business retention and recruitment for the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City, Mo.

A native of Altamont, he has served in a number of positions in Illinois state government and also worked for Illinois Power and in economic development positions in Tuscola, Jacksonville and Indianapolis.

The Champaign County Economic Development Corp.'s board of directors this morning approved a five-year contract for Kirchhoff at an annual salary of $110,000.
