It's Your Business: My Thai restaurant opening in Champaign

The owners of Siam Terrace in Urbana have opened a second restaurant in Champaign.

My Thai, at 2312 W. Springfield Ave., serves up Thai food, such as pad Thai and basil fried rice, and sushi, such as a crunchy roll with tuna and avocado served tempura-style with a spicy sauce.

A grand opening celebration will be Sept. 16 and will feature several specials, said Ratana Darawankul, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Worapot Tangmunarunkit.

My Thai is in the space formerly occupied by Illini Grill, and, prior to that, El Toro.

They chose the West Springfield Avenue location because at Siam Terrace, "we've had a lot of customers come from west Champaign and there have been many delivery requests from this side of town," Darawankul said.

They decided to also offer sushi there "because we just wanted to offer something new, and it seems like a lot of people in the area are open to the sushi," she said.

They're working on obtaining a liquor license and plan to offer wine and beer in the future.

The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and for dinner from 4:30 to 10 p.m.

On Saturdays and Sundays, it's open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant can be reached at 351-8424. Delivery and carryouts are available.

Kebabs!

In other restaurant news, Kishan Sharma expects his new restaurant, Casablanca, 623 E. Green St., C, to open early this week.

The restaurant will feature a variety of meat and seafood kebabs with rice and salad as sides. It will also serve kebab rolls wrapped in naan, an Indian bread.

Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with meals generally ranging from $7 to $10, Sharma said. Dinner will be from 5 to 10 p.m. most days, with meals in the $10 to $15 range.

Lunch will be served informally, but dinner will be served with tablecloths and china. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the restaurant will be open late, until 3 a.m., with less pricey foods available during the late-night hours.

Sharma opened his first restaurant, Bombay Indian Grill, 401 E. Green St., C, in 2003. The second Bombay Grill opened at 302 S. First St. in 2008. He also owns Indian Grill in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago and Bombay Indian Grill in Evanston.

Physical therapy

Gretchen Thompson recently opened the Champaign office of Accelerated Rehab Centers, at 1612-A S. Neil St., C.

Thompson, a Champaign native, worked at an Accelerated office in Chicago and, after relocating here with her husband, decided to open one in Champaign.

The approach at the center is very hands-on, she said. The manual therapy approach involves using hands to assess a patient's issues with joints, tissues and more. They also use tools to break up adhesions and scar tissue.

The center guarantees to get patients into the office within 24 to 48 hours, she said.

It's open 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

The office can be reached at 355-1961. More information is available online.

Accelerated, based in Chicago, started in the city in 1984 and now has 170 centers throughout the U.S., including Michigan, Missouri and Iowa.

Briefs

– Ten Thousand Villages, 105 N. Walnut St., C, plans to hold its annual "Women's Friendship Day" event on Sept. 18. The store will collect items for C-U Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services.

Items requested include tampons, sanitary napkins, toothbrushes and toothpaste, hairbrushes, combs and headbands, socks and granola or other snack bars.

– The Holiday Inn in Urbana recently celebrated its grand reopening. A $3.5 million renovation project is now complete.
