It's Your Business: T. Kelly Jewelers planning to close
Longtime jeweler Tim Twedt is closing his Champaign store, T. Kelly Jewelers, later this spring or early summer.
The closing comes a few months after one of the most profitable years he's had, but due to health reasons, Twedt, 60, said he needed to close the store.
Twedt started in the jewelry business 23 years ago in Campustown, relocated to downtown Champaign and is now in the One Main Plaza building downtown.
Last Wednesday he started a going-out-of-business sale. The sale will continue through May or perhaps June, he said.
"Everything in stock has to be sold," he said.
In recent years, Twedt focused on high-end jewelry and custom designs – "one-of-a-kind pieces," he said.
Last year was one of the best years he's had in the business, and he attributes that to building relationships with clients over the years "and having the most excellent clients and customers in town."
Another goodbye
Turns out, we won't always have Paris.
Paris' Boutique, at 511 Town Center Blvd., C, near Slumberland Furniture, is closing this spring.
Owner Paris Seloover said she was closing the shop to spend more time with her husband, who is a pilot.
Now's your chance to stock up on designer jeans at a reduced price. Seloover is holding a going-out-of business sale. The store carries brands such as Juicy Couture, Chip & Pepper jeans and clothes from designers such as Ella Moss.
The boutique moved to its current location in 2007 from 202 E. Green St., C, where she opened the store in 2004.
One Week Boutique
The biannual children's consignment event, One Week Boutique, will hold its spring sale next weekend.
As with the fall sale, the spring event will be in the former Rhodes Furniture warehouse, 912 W. Anthony Drive, C.
The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, and noon to 7 p.m. Monday, April 13. The Easter bunny will be on hand from noon to 4 p.m. that Sunday, so bring your camera. Items will be reduced 50 percent on Monday.
A special preview sale will be Friday for expecting moms, first-time moms, volunteers and sellers. You must register online to attend the pre-sale.
The in-season clothing is separated into boys' and girls' clothing by sizes. All clothing is inspected for stains, holes and style. Equipment such as strollers, cribs, high chairs and bouncy seats and maternity clothes are also for sale.
The sale offers parents and grandparents a good chance to buy discounted items for children, said organizer Donna Pepper.
"At our fall sale, we heard everyone talking about tightening their budgets in preparation for the change in the economy," Pepper said.
Items are priced by the consignor. If you want to sell items in the sale, you must register on the Web site, www.oneweekboutique.com, by midnight tonight. Sellers can earn 70 percent of the price of what their items sell for. Consignors choose if they want to pick up or donate any unsold items. Remaining items are donated to Crisis Nursery and the Center for Women in Transition.
Shoppers are charged a $2 admission on Saturday, but there is no admission fee on Sunday or Monday.
Yoga center relocating
The Living Yoga Center is hosting an open house from 7 to 9 p.m. April 17 in the center's new space on the second floor of 115 W. Main St., U.
The center relocated to the space in December and decided to stay there permanently, said owner Deb Lister.
Lister will be receiving her degree in occupational therapy and will soon be expanding her services to include yoga therapy and occupational therapy. The center offers hatha and flow yoga, prenatal and other classes.
During the open house, Lister will have food and drinks for guests.
"We'll talk about what changes we're going to make, and it'll be an opportunity for people who have questions about yoga to talk to our instructors," she said.
The downtown Urbana studio is located above Crane Alley and across the street from the Heel to Toe shoe store.
The studio was previously located in the Jefferson Building at Hill and Randolph streets in downtown Champaign. That building is being converted into apartments.
