It's Your Business: Firms in Tuscola, Monticello moving
For today's column, we will highlight a hodgepodge of business news from around East Central Illinois.
– Bee Active Toys, previously located at 204 W. Washington St. in Monticello, has reopened in the Tanger Outlet Center in Tuscola.
The store stocks specialty and educational toys, collectibles and games for infants through junior-high-school-age children (although some games are also appropriate for adults).
The new location has an expanded book selection, expanded plush animal selection and more games for older children. The store also plans to bring back the stuff-a-bear machine.
"Every department has been stepped up," said Nancy Leithleiter, whose son Brad Curry owns the store.
The store is located in Suite E-500 of the mall, and it can be reached at 253-4760. It's open the same hours that the mall is open: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
– Speaking of Monticello, Any Frequency, the vinyl, CD and DVD shop, is moving a few doors down from 220 W. Washington St. in the town square to the Lone Pine Books space at 200 W. Washington St., on Sept. 1. (As reported earlier this summer, the used-book store is closing.)
The music shop will be twice the size of its previous location, and it will contain a stage for performances during the day. It also will have a local listening station that will contain a playlist of songs from local bands. A grand opening celebration is being planned.
Any Frequency is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
– Also of note, El Toro, the regional chain of Mexican restaurants, will open its Monticello restaurant in a few weeks at 1112 S. Charter St., home previously to a barbecue joint.
Market Place Mall activity
– Wet Seal, which sells clothing, shoes and accessories for teen girls, opened last weekend after being closed a couple months for renovation.
"The store has been renovated from top to bottom," said mall manager Dennis Robertson. Wet Seal has a new storefront, wall textures, mannequins and other interior decor.
"It is a lot more contemporary look, reflecting a style more like Charlotte Russe and Forever 21," Robertson said, referring to two other mall clothing stores.
Wet Seal is in the Bergner's wing of the mall.
– Hot Topic, another teen clothing store, located in the Macy's or food court wing, has not closed. Instead, it's moving to what was formerly Wilsons Leather shop, also in the Macy's wing of the mall, while the permanent space is being renovated. The renovated store will debut sometime in October.
– Construction has started at the new space for Zales, which is moving into the former Great American Cookie space as well as additional space adjacent to that. The jewelry store will open sometime in October, Robertson said.
A temporary tenant is expected to occupy the Zales space. Robertson declined to reveal its name just yet, but said the store will sell gifts and decor.
– Stacie Lee has opened an aromatherapy stand in the Macy's wing called Infinite Lee Scents. She sells body oils, lotions, sprays, bath products and customized gift baskets.
She is open during mall hours and can also be contacted via e-mail at infiniteleescents@gmail.com. She also sells her items at 4 Seasons Garage Sales at 2200-A E. University Ave., U.
New Circles open
Circles boutique is now open at its new location in downtown Champaign, 114 N. Neil St., just around the corner from its old space at 107 N. Walnut St.
The women's clothing and shoe store is keeping its same hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
New name for bar
Because of an ownership change, Geo's Chill And Grill at 604 N. Cunningham Ave., U, will be called Rumor's Bar and Grill.
Hair salon moving
Sculpt Hair Studio is moving to a new location in Champaign on Monday. The salon will move from 1205 S. Mattis Ave., near Durst Cycle, to 2001 Round Barn Road, Suite B.
The salon offers hair services for men and women, plus facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures. It's open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The phone number will remain the same at 355-1100.
