Founded: Approved by voters in 1966. Opened 1967 in scattered downtown Champaign sites with 1,338 students. Campus now at 2004 W. Bradley Ave., C.
Enrollment fall 2005: 10,674. 54 percent women; 4 percent Asian, 15 percent black, 5 percent Hispanic, 4 percent nonresident alien; average age 27.
Tuition: $77 a credit hour in district; $215 in state; $318 otherwise.
Studies, fall 2005: 32.5 percent transfer programs; 32 percent continuing education; 22 percent occupational programs; 2 percent certificate studies.
Counties in district in whole or in part: Champaign, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Ford, Iroquois, Livingston, McLean, Moultrie, Piatt and Vermilion.
Budget: $73.5 million
Community programs: Staerkel Planetarium; theater; dental hygiene clinic; art gallery; newspaper; radio and television station; Lifelong Learning Institute; Child Development Center; Illinois Employment Training Center; College for Kids; music programs; library; computer programs; Tony Noel Center.
