Top tips for apartment hunting:
See the exact apartment you're considering.
Check landlords' complaint histories at the Tenant Union.
Don't put down money until you sign the lease.
Be sure to have a street address and emergency phone number for the landlord.
Get all promises in writing in the lease.
Have your lease reviewed at Tenant Union before you sign.
Make sure you want the place. There's no grace period for backing out once you've signed a lease.
