Teenager dies after being struck by car
RANTOUL – A Michigan teen standing in the middle of a highway in northern Champaign County was killed when he was struck by a car Monday evening.
Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Eric Tremblay, 17, died of injuries he received when he was struck by a car driven by Ian Albers, 17, of Gifford, about 6:20 p.m. Monday.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Mr. Tremblay was from Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
Police said Albers was driving east on U.S. 136 near County Road 1950 E, about 2 miles east of Rantoul, when he hit Mr. Tremblay. Master Sgt. Kirk Rogers said no tickets were issued.
Rantoul Township High School Superintendent David Requa said Albers is a student.
Northrup said an autopsy was to be done today and that would include toxicology tests.
