More state police patrols for Decatur Celebration
PESOTUM — Illinois State Police in District 10 will be stepping up patrols for this weekend’s Decatur Celebration.
In conjunction with the Decatur Police and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, state police will be looking for alcohol-related offenses such as driving under the influence and illegal transportation of alcohol. The Decatur Celebration is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
District 10 Capt. Stuart Shaver said: “Alcohol and drug impairment remain a factor in over 40 percent of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois and removing impaired drivers from the roadways is a priority in our fatality reduction efforts.”
During the past five years, District 10 has experienced an annual average of 69 deaths in its nine-county area. Macon County has averaged almost 13 fatalities each of those past five years.
“We have no higher priority than reducing fatalities” Shaver said, “and we will continue to aggressively enforce DUI laws to achieve that goal.”
