URBANA — A Rantoul couple arrested Tuesday for having drugs for sale at their home were criminally charged in Champaign County Wednesday.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said police were investigating Angel Wallace, 23, of the 0-100 block of Mahoning Avenue, for a fraudulent check-cashing scheme. When they went to the home Tuesday to talk to her about the checks, they saw drugs in plain view, Beach said.

After obtaining a search warrant, police went back and found about 76 grams of cannabis, 10 grams of crack cocaine and ammunition for a gun.

They arrested Wallace and Tremaine Taylor, 35, who listed the same address.

Taylor had been sentenced by Judge Harry Clem on Oct. 19 to four years in prison for a 2008 aggravated battery conviction even though he had failed to show up for his sentencing.

Both Wallace and Taylor were charged with delivery of cocaine and possession with intent to deliver cannabis. Taylor was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon for having the ammunition.

Judge John Kennedy set Taylor’s bond at $500,000 and Wallace’s at $15,000 and ordered each to be back in court Nov. 17.
