Robbery attempt on UI campus investigated

URBANA – University of Illinois police are investigating an attempted robbery and battery early Sunday morning on campus.

According to a police report, a man was walking west on the sidewalk in front of the Illini Union in the 1400 block of West Green Street, Urbana, at 3:40 a.m. when two other men walking east passed him. One of the men bumped into the victim, threatened him and unsuccessfully demanded money from him.

The two men also removed the victim's eyeglasses and struck him, causing a cut to his lip. The men then left the area, walking farther east.

The attempted robbers were described as black males between the ages of 18 and 22 and about 6 feet tall. One man was slender with a hair pick stuck in his hair and wore a gray hooded sweatshirt with Gothic style writing containing the word "park" or "place."

The other man was described as heavier, and he wore a dark shirt with a puffy, dark-colored vest and dark hat.
