Third person dies from injuries in I-74 crash in Vermilion County
URBANA — A third person has died from injuries sustained in a crash last week on Interstate 74 in Vermilion County.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said that Brittany Pritts, 21, of Mansfield, was pronounced dead at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she had been since the Thursday afternoon accident that killed her boyfriend and his father.
Mark A. Sjuts, 52, and his son Chason C. Sjuts, 23, both of St. Joseph, died at the scene of the crash between the Sjuts’ car and a semitrailer tractor truck that happened near the Gilbert Street exit.
Illinois State Police said the elder Sjuts was driving east about 12:30 p.m. when his car left the road, went through the median and collided with the westbound semi driven by Andrew Johnson, 36, of Mankato, Minn. Johnson was not injured.
The accident remains under investigation.
Northrup said Miss Pritts had turned 21 on the day of the crash. She was an organ donor, he said.
