Urbana man pleads guilty in sex abuse case

URBANA – An Urbana man could spend up to seven years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Leander King, 57, who listed an address in the 1100 block of East Colorado Avenue, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

According to a police report, the sexual abuse happened to a girl in 2004 at King's former home in Champaign. The victim is now 18, according to the report.

As part of the plea agreement, a charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault in connection with an incident with another girl at King's home in Urbana in December 2008 was dismissed.

King could be sentenced to three to seven years in prison.

Judge Harry Clem set King's sentencing hearing for Oct. 6.
