Off-duty Champaign County deputy arrested for DUI in crash
An investigator with the Champaign County sheriff’s office has been placed on administrative leave after an accident in which he was accused of drunk driving.
Travis Burr of Sidney was off duty when he was involved in a three-vehicle property-damage accident at about 6 p.m. Saturday south of Tolono, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, they learned that Burr had been involved, and the sheriff’s office then called state police to investigate.
Burr was arrested for DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He is out on bond.
Sheriff Dan Walsh said Burr is on paid administrative leave while the matter is investigated.
It amazes me how they must investigate. Paid administrative leave........that will teach him a lesson, what a waste of tax dollars. Just because when he is at work he carries a badge and a gun still does not give him the right to break the law.
To Ms. Somers Yes the deputy has a family. Maybe he should of thought about that before he chose to drink and drive. He could have killed my daughter .

Definition of accused: A person charged with a criminal offense
Definition of charged: a formal accusation made before a court
Side note for the galactically challenged: accused and charged doesn't = convicted or guilty
Tricia Somers
A DUI charge on an "Officer of the Law" is fairly serious, due to the fact they are supposed to be a representative and an example of a law bidding citizen.
I am reading a little more into it, as much as you are defending him......
Tricia, isn't this Travis's 2nd DUI?
HE IS MY BROTHER AND HE DESERVES AN INVESTIGATION JUST LIKE ANY OTHER CITIZEN! HE DESERVES THE RIGHT OF INNOCENCE UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!!! THE FACT THAT HE WORKS FOR THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND CARRIES A BADGE DOES NOT MAKE HIM GUILTY. IF IT WAS A FAMILY MEMBER OF YOURS......YOU WOULD APPRECIATE THE SAME COURTESY. HAVE WE FORGOTTEN THAT YOU ARE INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE???? OR DOES THAT NOT APPLY TO HIM BECAUSE OF HIS POSITION????
Well Tricia, if the officers who investigated the incident didn't feel a DUI charge was necessary, he probably wouldn't have received one.
Again, if you worked for the Sheriff's office......you would know that an arrest doesn't mean your guilty......people get arrested everyday that are not guilty. I am not going to argue this with you. As I said, your entitled to your opinion.....Have a wonderful day.
If this is truly the 2nd time he has had a DUI then he obviously did not learn anything from before and since he has become an officer. The rules have now changed. This should be handled quickly and efficiently, either he was or he wasnt drunk. There is no middle ground if he was, he should no longer be in the department and he needs some help now more than ever. This was HIS decision to do this and drive. As an officer hasnt he seen the effects of drinking and driving through his position in the department?? Also as an officer I do hold him to higher standards, I respect the people in this position and have been thankful for the ones who have helped us in our time of need. Had it been myself or any other person off the street we would not get any favored treatment he should not either.
WOW folks, everyone needs to take a breath. If he was in fact driving under the influence then he should be treated just as everyone else. If he was not then so be it and let the court system do it's work. Tricia, I will say this. Law Enforcement officers are held to a higher moral and ethical standard. They accept that responsibility when they take the oath. This means maybe not going to that party, or hanging out with certain people, or driving when it is borderline. So everyone relax. Let the system do the work.
Hmmm a quick check of the circuit clerks website does show this would be his second DUI. The first resulted in a conviction.............
