Urbana man arrested for armed robbery
URBANA — An Urbana man is being held at the Champaign County Jail in connection with an armed robbery on Friday night.
According to a police report, a 26-year-old Urbana man and an 18-year-old Urbana man reported being robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot in the 1500 block of East Washington Street, Urbana, at 10:45 p.m. The robber reportedly took cash, a cell phone and video accessories.
Police said they found a man matching the description provided by the victims at Hessel Park.
The report said the man fled when stopped by police but was soon caught by police officers.
Police arrested Sammy Boykins, 17, who listed an address in the 2700 block of East Illinois Street, Urbana, on charges of armed robbery, armed violence, resisting a police officer, and unlawful use of weapons.
According to the report, the stolen property was found on Boykins, and a handgun was found nearby.
