Indiana man dies from accident on I-57
An Indiana man who was hit by a truck while walking across Interstate 57 on Sunday has died.
According to a release from state police at Pesotum, Nicholas A. Cox, 31, of Rockville, Ind., was driving south on I-57 when he pulled over to the right shoulder and got out of his vehicle at 4:46 p.m. Sunday about 2 1/2 miles south of Tuscola.
A semi-trailer driven by Billy J. Tallman Jr., 40, of Urbana moved to the left lane as he approached where Mr. Cox had parked. The report said Mr. Cox walked into the road, across to the left lane. Tallman’s truck hit Mr. Cox, throwing him across the pavement to the right shoulder.
Mr. Cox was taken by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was pronounced dead at 9:58 a.m. Monday at the hospital.
No tickets were issued.
The Champaign County coroner’s office said an inquest may be held later.
