Champaign bank robbed
CHAMPAIGN — Police are looking for a man who robbed a Champaign bank on Tuesday afternoon.
Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said a man entered Central Illinois Bank, 302 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign, at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday, handed a note to a teller demanding money and ran off with an undisclosed amount of money, headed south on State Street.
Dunn said the robber acted as if he had a gun, but did not show one.
The robber was described as a clean-shaven white man, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and in his mid-40s, Dunn said. He was wearing a black hat with writing on it and a long-sleeve blue or light green buttoned-up shirt. He had light-colored hair and was wearing glasses, Dunn said.
Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney said police were interviewing people at the scene and were examining a surveillance video.
A police dog was brought to the scene and was tracking the scent of the robber south on State Street.
Champaign police are being assisted by the state police.
No injuries were reported by bank employees or two patrons in the bank at the time, Dunn said.
