Danville man arrested for robbery in Urbana
URBANA — A Danville man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $35,000 bond following his arrest in connection with a robbery in Urbana on Tuesday morning.
Christopher A. Mitchell, 23, who listed an address in the 1000 block of Campbell Lane, Danville, pleaded innocent on Wednesday to one count of felony robbery.
According to a police report, a 24-year-old Urbana man had bought cigarettes at a convenience store and was walking home in the 900 block of North Broadway Avenue, Urbana, at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday when several people approached him, knocked him down and stole his wallet, including a credit card and cash.
The victim received minor injuries but did not need to go to the hospital, police said.
While the victim was telling his story to police, a blue Chevrolet Caprice drove by, and the victim said he recognized a passenger (identified as Mitchell) in the car as one of the men who had attacked him.
As police followed the vehicle, they saw Mitchell bail out of the vehicle and run away. Police chased Mitchell and arrested him.
Judge John Kennedy set Mitchell’s next court appearance for Sept. 21.
