Rantoul man arrested for DUI when car crashes into house
RANTOUL – A Rantoul man is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $55,000 bond for crashing a stolen car into a house.
According to a Rantoul police report, Diego Torres-Bedolla, 22, who listed an address in Rantoul, pleaded innocent on Tuesday to felony unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated driving under the influence, aggravated driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or more and leaving the scene of an accident.
If convicted, Torres-Bedolla could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
According to a police report, Torres-Bedolla was driving a black Oldsmobile Cutlass when it crashed into the side of a home in the 1500 block of Gates Drive, Rantoul, at 3:19 a.m. Sunday. Police said the car crashed into a room where a child was sleeping. The child was taken to an Urbana hospital for treatment and was later released.
According to the report, Torres-Bedolla left the scene of the accident. Officers found him later that morning in the 400 block of Lincoln Street in Rantoul.
Police said tests indicated Torres-Bedolla's blood alcohol concentration was 0.14 percent. A motorist in Illinois is presumed intoxicated at 0.08 percent.
Police said the Oldsmobile Cutlass had been reported stolen from an address on Lincoln Street in Rantoul.
Judge John Kennedy set Torres-Bedolla's next court appearance for Oct. 19.
