Truck driver ticketed in five-vehicle collision
A Chicago truck driver was ticketed for three violations in a five-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon in Coles County.
According to a report from state police, southbound traffic on Interstate 57 was stopped at 4:15 about three miles north of the Charleston-Mattoon exit because of a multivehicle crash.
Lukasz T. Zybura, 30, of Chicago was driving a Volvo truck tractor and hit two stopped vehicles, drove across the median, overturned on its passenger side, hit a Coles County sheriff deputy’s car parked on the northbound shoulder (the deputy was out of the car), hit the rear of another vehicle in the northbound lane and then came to rest across both northbound lanes.
No one in the four vehicles hit by the truck was injured. Zybura was hospitalized at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County. He was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions, improper lane usage and unlawful possession of a radar detector in a commercial vehicle.
