Felony charges filed against driver in car-pedestrian crash
URBANA – Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz has added additional felony charges against an Urbana man accused of hitting a pedestrian while driving drunk earlier this week.
Jeremy B. Hall, 35, was arrested again Thursday on a warrant Rietz got earlier in the day charging him with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and one of leaving the scene of a personal-injury accident.
The charges stem from a collision about 10 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Willow Road involving Hall's car and a pedestrian. Hall had previously been charged with misdemeanor DUI and was issued traffic tickets.
An Urbana police report said Jacob Hill, 22, of Tolono was walking in the road when he was hit from behind, thrown across the hood into its windshield, then fell to the pavement. He suffered a cut to his head that required staples and was treated and released from Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The police report said Hall left the scene but returned a bit later. He was arrested because an officer said Hall smelled of alcohol and was driving even though his license had been revoked.
The report said Hall's blood alcohol concentration was measured at 0.217 percent at Carle.
One of the new charges filed Thursday against Hall alleges he has two previous convictions for DUI, one from Champaign County in 1995 and another out of Florida in 2004, Rietz said.
The most serious penalty Hall faces if convicted is one to 12 years in prison.
Hall is due back in court on March 16. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
