Tip leads to arrest of man charged in 2008 home invasion

URBANA – A man who had been wanted for almost a year for home invasion was arrested Thursday after a tip to Crimestoppers.

Champaign police detective Don Shepard sought help from television and The News-Gazette Wednesday afternoon in reminding the public he was looking for Dontrail Wright, 26, in connection with a December 2008 home invasion on East Hill Street in Champaign.

Some 17 hours later, Wright was in custody thanks to a tip to Crimestoppers and Urbana police.

About 7 a.m. Thursday, Urbana police found Wright at a home in the 800 block of North Division Avenue. He is set to be arraigned Friday afternoon on the charges that were filed against him last March.

Shepard said he interviewed Wright on Thursday afternoon.

"He saw it on TV himself," Shepard said.

Wright needs to post $25,000 cash to be released from custody.
