Man sentenced to two years for domestic battery
URBANA – A Decatur man originally charged with home invasion for entering a Champaign woman's apartment last year has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Malcolm J. Matthews, 22, pleaded guilty Monday before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to domestic battery, admitting that he struck a woman in her apartment in the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue on Dec. 3.
The more serious charge of home invasion was dismissed in return for his plea.
In another Champaign County court case resolved recently with a guilty plea:
– Richard L. Mullens, 51, who listed an address in the 300 block of West Ells Avenue, Champaign, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery for hitting a man in the face at the Hanford Inn, 2408 N. Cunningham Ave., U, on June 28. He was sentenced to 30 months of probation and ordered to get drug treatment. A more serious charge of home invasion was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.
Co-defendant Zachary Duke, 24, of Urbana, pleaded guilty to the same aggravated battery in October and was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison.
