Champaign man charged in drug case
URBANA – A Champaign man who police say had more than 5 pounds of cannabis in his apartment has been charged with possessing it for sale.
Charlie Webb Jr., 45, who listed an address in the 1600 block of East Washington Street, could go to prison for 30 years if convicted. He was charged Friday with possession with intent to deliver 2,638 grams of cannabis.
Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Champaign police narcotics agents went to Webb's home with a search warrant Thursday and seized the cannabis, $27,000 cash, and scales.
Lozar said Webb admitted to police that he had been selling cannabis for the last two years.
Because of prior drug-related convictions, Webb faces an extended prison term if convicted.
Judge John Kennedy set his bond at $100,000 and ordered him to be back in court April 5.
