Sexual assault reported on campus

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for information related to a sexual assault Feb. 13 near the University of Illinois campus.

According to Champaign police spokeswoman Rene Dunn, a 20-year-old woman left Kam’s, 608 E. Daniel St., about 1 a.m. Feb. 13 and began walking alone to a friend’s house. Dunn said the woman was an Illinois Wesleyan University student from Skokie who was in town to visit a friend.

According to a police report, two men approached the woman as she walked and forced her into an alley, where one of the men sexually assaulted her.

The attacker was described as a 6-foot-tall black male with a thin build. He was about 25 to 30 years old and wore a black coat and white T-shirt.

The victim’s description of the second man was incomplete.

When a man and a woman approached the scene during the attack, the two men fled from the scene, Dunn said. The man and the woman then drove the victim to a safe location. Dunn said the victim was taken to a local hospital.

Police would like the man and woman who helped the victim to contact them so they can be interviewed, Dunn said.
