URBANA — A former correctional officer at the Ford County Jail has pleaded guilty to a felony charge, admitting that he sexually abused a female inmate in her cell.
Phillip S. Santefort, 41, who listed addresses in Paxton and Buckley, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Urbana on Feb. 10 to one count of sexual abuse of a person in official detention. The charge says Santefort engaged in a sexual act with a female inmate during cell checks in summer 2009.
Santefort faces up to 15 years in prison when sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Michael P. McCuskey on May 20.
Santefort, whose trial had been scheduled for March 28, remains free on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
