Champaign police seek information on string of burglaries
CHAMPAIGN – The Champaign Police Department needs help solving several residential and vehicle burglaries that happened in February in southwest Champaign.
Between Feb. 8 and 15, about six residential burglaries occurred in the area west of Kenwood Drive (west of Centennial High School), south of John Street and north of Kirby Avenue.
All the homes were forcibly entered through a rear window or door in the early evening.
Between Feb. 17 and 24, numerous vehicle burglaries occurred in the area east of Crescent Drive (east of Centennial High School), south of John Street and north of Kirby Avenue.
At least 10 vehicles were entered. Most were unlocked, but in some, bricks or concrete debris were used to break windows.
Police ask anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 373-8477. Tips can also be sent at http://www.373tips.com or by text by sending Tip397 plus the tip to CRIMES (274637).
Police also ask that if you notice unusual or suspicious activity, people, or vehicles in your neighborhood, please call 911 immediately so that officers can respond.
Residents are reminded to keep their residences and vehicles locked and to remove items of value from vehicles.
They ask that you note details regarding suspicious people such as clothing, physical descriptions, and details on vehicles such as license plate number, make, model, color, as that information could help police find the burglars.
The information you provide is confidential. You do not have to give your name or appear in court. Crimestoppers will pay a reward if the information you provide leads to an arrest for this crime. Cash rewards are also paid for information on other felony crimes or fugitives in the Champaign County area.
