Man taken to hospital after school bus hits car, minivan

URBANA — One man was treated at a hospital after a three-vehicle accident involving a school bus carrying children early Tuesday.

Urbana police Lt. Rich Surles said officers were sent to the 1200 block of South Vine Street in front of Urbana Middle School at 8:18 a.m. and found a car, minivan and school bus involved.

An Urbana police report said Sarah Kranto Brown, 54, who listed an address on Sunset Drive in Champaign, was driving a Student First bus south on Vine Street when she went to pass a car driven by Devin Duckett, 41, of Sidney. The bus hit the car, pushing it forward.

The bus driver then went around Duckett’s car and hit the back of a van driven by Sandra Powell, 52, of DeLand, two or three times.

The report said Kranto Brown could give no explanation for what happened.

There were eight children on the bus, but none of them were hurt. Kranto Brown was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Duckett was taken by ambulance to Carle, where he was treated and later released.

The report said Powell complained of neck pain but refused treatment at the accident scene.
