Urbana woman charged with having stolen car

URBANA – Bond has been set at $3,000 for an Urbana woman arrested after police allegedly found her in possession of a stolen vehicle in Rantoul.

Tanya Lemons, 37, who listed an address in the 1700 block of Florida Avenue, Urbana, pleaded innocent on Monday to unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to a police report, Rantoul police officers were called to the 1100 block of North Century Boulevard, Rantoul, at 2:55 a.m. Saturday after receiving a call about an argument.

When the officers arrived, they talked to Lemons, who was taking part in the argument and who had parked a blue 2001 Hyundai Elantra in front of the residence, police said.

A Rantoul police officer remembered receiving a message earlier that week from the Champaign Police Department seeking a vehicle matching that description that had been stolen from Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Champaign.

After a check on the license plate confirmed the vehicle had been stolen, police arrested Lemons.

Judge John Kennedy set Lemon's next court appearance for May 3.
