Oklahoma man faces drug charges

URBANA – An Oklahoma man who told police he was coming to Champaign County to sell drugs has been charged with possessing more than $14,000 worth of cannabis.

Ramesh J. Hill, 32, of Oklahoma City was arrested Tuesday at the Illinois Terminal in downtown Champaign by Champaign police, who had received an anonymous tip that he would be arriving on a Greyhound bus with drugs.

State's Attorney Julia Rietz said officers got a photo of Hill and began talking to him after he got off the bus. He told them he had no identification and put his hands in his pockets even though he was told not to.

When an officer grabbed his hands, he began twisting, allowing the officer to see what appeared to be bundles wrapped in duct tape in his pants pockets.

Rietz said Hill continued to resist the efforts of police, who handcuffed him, put him on the ground and searched him.

They found four bricks of compacted cannabis weighing a total of just over 4 pounds and a vial of liquid that he said was PCP, a horse tranquilizer, that he liked to put on his cigarettes.

Police estimated the value of the cannabis at $14,713, Rietz said.

She said he told police he had bought the drugs in Oklahoma and intended to sell them in Champaign County, where his sister lives.

Hill was charged with possession with intent to deliver cannabis and possession of a controlled substance. Judge John Kennedy set his bond at $150,000 and ordered him to be back in court April 5. If convicted, Hill faces a mandatory prison term of up to 30 years.

Because the state has a set amount they use for reports/records based on per gram of type of drug is found.

if i did my math right there is roughly 28 grams an oz and 16 oz a pound. 448 grams a pound times 4 is 1792 grams total.when divided by the cost the fuzz claim it it comes out just just ovver 8.20 cents a gram, being we dont not know the quality of said weed id be hard pressed to find anyone willing to pay 8.20 cents a gram unless that weed is excellent. Based on the limited story given if it was compressed brick weed its commercial grade at best and is no where near 8.20 a gram more like 2 or 3 bucks a gram if that, prob less. its a sad state though when a guy gets caught with a plant might get 30 years but yet child molestors and rapists get probation or far less time on a crime that actually has victims.

militant seems to know a lot about the selling price of dope, maybe the police should check him out? sentencing in champaign county is screwed up and has been for years, no surprise about ridiculous punishments they hand out, but if you don't like it, vote.

its all common sense street knowledge and the fact that if your gonna debate something know your facts, send the pigs to my door they prob need to find another citizen to harass instead of actually pursing people who smoke a plant. the average voter is an idiot thats why we get the screwed up laws and politicians who enact em, i have no faith in the voting general public, the same morons that voted in gov ryan, blago and now quinn.. if ppl really want to change laws dont retain the activist judges and corrupt politicians who think they are doing a service to our community by putting potheads in prison for 30 years, yet let rapists and molesters off with probation or reduced time.
