Champaign man arraigned in sex case
URBANA – A Champaign man accused of sexually molesting a toddler is due back in court April 19.
Deandre Weatherall, 28, who listed an address in the 1200 block of North Champaign Street, was arraigned Monday on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
The Class X felony charges allege that between Dec. 1 and March 11, he committed sex acts on a girl at an apartment in north Champaign.
State's Attorney Julia Rietz said the case came to the attention of authorities when the girl, who is under the age of 5, reported what was happening to a baby-sitter.
Weatherall's bond was set at $200,000 and he was told to be back in court April 19.
Champaign police investigated the allegations.
If convicted, Weatherall faces an extended term of between 30 and 60 years in prison.
Rietz said Weatherall is on parole for a 2000 conviction for armed robbery so he can't be released from the jail until any potential parole violations have been resolved.
Weatherall also has a conviction from 2000 for criminal trespass to residence, she said.
