Urbana teen faces new charges in unrelated case

URBANA – An Urbana teen already in custody on aggravated battery charges has been accused of an unrelated sexual molestation.

Assistant State's Attorney Stephanie Weber said she filed a charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault against Daniel Outlaw, 16.

He was arraigned on the charge Monday by Judge Harry Clem, who is already presiding over other juvenile delinquency charges against Outlaw, including one in which he allegedly beat up a fellow READY school student on Feb. 16 during a fight in the 100 block of East University Avenue, Champaign.

Outlaw is also on probation for domestic battery, Weber said.

Weber explained that while Outlaw was in detention, Urbana police got information that he engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a younger boy in Urbana between Sept. 14, 2010, and Feb. 14, 2011.

Because of the serious nature of the charge, Outlaw had to be charged as an adult, Weber said. His case, however, still could be resolved in juvenile court along with his other cases.

His next court date is April 11.
