Bond set for Arcola man charged with aggravated DUI

URBANA Bond has been set at $300,000 for an Arcola man charged with aggravated driving under the influence.

Heath A. Baumann, 38, who listed an address in Arcola, pleaded innocent on Tuesday to four counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

According to the charge, Baumann had five prior instances of driving under the influence.

According to a police report, Baumann was seen driving a vehicle when it crossed the white line separating the lanes of traffic on Prospect Avenue in Champaign on March 8. When Baumann made a left turn onto Marketview Drive, he turned too wide, causing the passenger side tires to go over the curb and into the grass.

The report said that Baumann had bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. He then submitted to a breath test, what indicated he had a blood alcohol content of 0.182. In Illinois, a motorist is presumed to be intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or above.

Judge John Kennedy set Baumann's bond at $300,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for May 31.
