Champaign man arraigned on burglary charges
URBANA -- A Champaign man who police say used Parkland College funds to buy items that he sold to get drug money is due back in court next month.
Roscoe Brown, 53, who listed an address in the 1000 block of West Maple Street, was arraigned Friday on two counts of burglary, alleging that he went in the Sherwin-Williams store, 703 N. Mattis Ave., C, on Dec. 10 and on March 2 intending to steal.
Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark said Brown was employed by Parkland College as a painter and charged paint sprayers to the college's account, which he then sold for cash to buy drugs.
Because of prior convictions for residential burglary, Clark said Brown faces a mandatory prison sentence of between six and 30 years if convicted.
Judge John Kennedy set Brown's bond at $2,500 and told him to be back in court May 3.
